operating budget

Financial plans for the expenditure of funds for anticipated needs during a fiscal year. Operating funds are supported by corporate income. Operating budgets are usually prepared for a period of one year or less. They are used to fund routine business operations and cover the cost of salaries, supplies, most contract services, and other items that do not retain any residual value more than one year after they are purchased. Also called an expense budget. See also capital budget.
