hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC)
A refrigerant that contains hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, and carbon atoms. HCFCs deliver less reactive chlorine to the ozone layer than CFCs. HCFCs are replacing CFCs in many industries, such as solvent/cleaning agents, refrigerants, and foam-blowing agents. However, production of HCFCs will be prohibited after 2020 because they contain ozone depleting chlorine.
