Chilled Beams
Chilled beam air conditioning uses metal grilles a bit like a car radiator in the ceiling to provide cooling. Cold water from the plant room circulates around the ceiling to provide cooling; much smaller ductwork is still required to provide ventilation. Because it takes much less energy to pump the small volumes of water required, this technology uses less energy than a conventional air conditioning system. Local office buildings with chilled beam systems include Deutsche Office Trust?s The Bond in Sydney, City Central in Adelaide, Sydney Water?s headquarters in Parramatta, and Stockland?s Edmund Barton building in Canberra. www.yourbuilding.org then search ?chilled beam?
